Things Your Rabbit Won’t Tell You
Things Your Rabbit Won’t Tell You
Today’s lesson is all about rabbit digestive health and hairball care.
Can you tell when your bunny is feeling unwell?
- Staying in a "hen crouch" or hunched position for a long time.
- Rapid breathing or body tremors/shivering.
- Not eating, drinking, or passing stools.
A very common and terrifying condition in the rabbit world: GI Stasis (Bloat).

To humans, it might seem minor,
but imagine a body only a fraction of our size—
the pain caused by GI stasis must be immense.
Many owners keep enzymes on hand. Let’s look at what they do:
Two common enzymes:
1. Papain (Papaya Enzyme): Aids digestion and promotes gastrointestinal motility.
2. Bromelain (Pineapple Enzyme): Anti-inflammatory and helps soften/break down proteins.
Bunnies may stop eating when they feel threatened or stressed.
Not eating or drinking causes bad bacteria to multiply rapidly in their tiny guts.
Prevention is better than cure!
Daily maintenance builds a strong foundation and reduces the chance of tummy aches!
- Provide plenty of fresh hay at all times.
- There are many types of hay available. Use patience and love to help your bunny find their favorite "match."
- Create a stress-free environment.
- Finding a suitable living space is basic, but providing a stress-free growth environment is also a vital part of pet care!
- Keep digestive health secrets on hand.
- Instead of waiting for danger to happen, it’s better to start daily maintenance early!
- During regular feeding, provide supplements like enzymes or hairball laxatives to maintain a healthy gut environment.
- Remember: moderation is key. Please consult your veterinarian before starting any new supplements!
